I can backup your findings from my own experience. Due to a change in job situation a year ago (to a stressful job) I found myself discontinuing a free weights / high protein exercise program and reverting to an aerobic / high carbohydrate lifestyle, because of lack of time As a result I put on weight around the gut and returned to my former obese self. It tool less than 6 months.

When I resigned from my stressful job I went back to my original exercise program. For the last 4 months I have been keeping away from carbohydrates except for a vegetable/fruit juice breakfast and a high protein/salad based diet the rest of the day. I am back on my free weight exercise program also. Already I have gone done 3 notches on my belt.

What you say makes sense. But I have a question about those fat percentage measuring devices. I'm 5'2". I weigh between 115 and 120 depending on time of day and what I'm wearing. I'm an exercise junkie. I bike to and from work, walk my dog, take a yoga or Pilates class almost daily, swim 1/2 a mile 3 times a week, and do my physical therapy exercises. I'm a health food nut. Whole grains, nuts, fresh veggies and fruit, meat/fish only a few times a week. So why does the Tanita scale say I'm 31% fat? My guess is that the Tanita at my gym is wrong, but I have no idea why.

This was an excellent article! I'm struggling with cravings, currently. Chocolate cake... chocolate cake... I just can't stop thinking about chocolate cake. Maybe you can touch on cravings? And how to mindfully work through them?

Thanks!

Well-written! This only enforces that life is all about balance. To live a healthy life, diet, exercise, and strength workouts cannot exist without each other.

I'm definitely passing this on... thanks for sharing with us!
